At Greenspace Associates, we believe in creating landscapes that bring people together. This fall, we had the privilege of contributing to a truly special project- a collaborative effort to restore the fish pond at Friendship Manor. This initiative was sparked by the heartfelt efforts of Owen, a 10-year-old with a deep connection to Friendship Manor and its residents, who wanted to bring life back to the community’s cherished pond.
A Community Effort
The pond at Friendship Manor had been a beloved feature for residents and their families for years. However, a leak had left the pond empty, and financial constraints prevented repairs. Inspired by Owen’s fundraiser, Greenspace Associates partnered with King’s Material to make the dream of a restored pond a reality. King’s Material generously provided materials at a fraction of the cost, with some even donated entirely. Together, we assisted Owen with a new fish pond that will soon become a vibrant hub of activity and joy.
The Pond Is Ready- And Awaiting Its First Residents
Although the pond is now complete and fully operational, the timing of the year means the fish will wait until spring to call it home. Friendship Manor is collaborating with the Quad City Botanical Center to receive donated koi fish and aquatic plants, ensuring the pond will be brimming with life as soon as the weather warms up.
A Heartwarming Beginning
Owen’s original letter captured the hearts of many in the community. In it, he recounted fond memories of visiting the pond with his grandparents and the joy it brought to residents and visitors alike. His determination to raise funds for the pond restoration inspired others to join in, proving that even small acts of kindness can lead to big changes.
Looking Ahead to Spring
By spring, the pond will not only feature stunning koi fish but also serve as a renewed gathering spot for Friendship Manor residents, their families, and visitors. Greenspace Associates is honored to have played a role in this meaningful project, and we look forward to seeing the smiles it brings.
This project embodies what landscaping is all about- connecting people with nature and creating spaces that foster happiness and togetherness.
